The Power of Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice that has been used in cooking since 2000BC. It comes from the branches of wild trees that belong to the genus “Cinnamomum”.  Their origin is in the Caribbean, South America, and Southeast Asia. There are two main types of cinnamon: Cinnamomum verum (Ceylon cinnamon), most commonly used in the Western world. Cinnamomum aromaticum (Cassia cinnamon or Chinese cinnamon), which originates from southern China. What many people do not know is that cinnamon has many additional uses other than just cooking.  Doctors in Ancient Egypt used it to treat such conditions as coughs, arthritis and sore throats.
